GVLT closes 779-acre easement along Norris rd.

This month GVLT completed a conservation easement with the Visser family to permanently protect their 779 acre ranch along Norris Rd., just west of Four Corners. Thanks to the generosity of Marge and Mel Visser, and funding from the Gallatin County Open Lands Program and the NRCS, the Visser Ranch will remain scenic and open for agriculture and wildlife, forever.

get to know GVLT's new Executive Director

After some COVID delays, Chet Work is officially on board as GVLT's new Executive Director. We recorded a fun Q and A with Chet so you could get to know him a bit better. We can't wait until the time when you can safely meet him in person. Watch the video to learn what tool, companion and National Park Chet would choose if weathering a zombie apocalypse.

penelope's legacy taking root
GVLT receives funding for tree plantings

While we're already missing Penelope, she has inspired a very generous gift that will sow seeds and grow roots for years to come. The Mysun Charitable Foundation has granted GVLT $50,000 over 5 years to plant trees in and around Bozeman in honor of Penelope. Our Stewardship staff are already hard at work, planting trees in Tuckerman Park to address erosion.

become a trail ambassador
seeking volunteers to promote trail etiquette

While we've had to cancel our drop in trail work days for the summer, there is still a safe, socially distant way to volunteer for the trails. Become a Trail Ambassador! Ambassadors hang out at trailheads or walk trails to greet users, share a smile, hand out maps and dog waste bags, reinforce good etiquette and share trail rules. Trail Ambassadors promote trail stewardship and our community expectations around sharing our outdoor spaces. As our community grows, it is important that locals and visitors alike learn to respect each other, and our trails. Email madison@gvlt.org to learn more about this volunteer opportunity!

Teresa larson

This month we're sending big congratulations to Teresa Larson on her retirement from REI. Teresa has been nurturing the partnership between REI and GVLT for years, supporting various trail projects and engaging her employees in volunteering. Teresa has been part of the GVLT family since the very beginning. She worked with our founder Chris Boyd to design the very first Main Street to the Mountains logo. Thank you Teresa for being a steadfast supporter and friend of GVLT. Happy trails in your retirement!

oboz footwear

We're especialy grateful for the support from our friends and across-the-street neighbors, Oboz Footwear. For years we've been partnering with Oboz to plant trees around the trail system as part of their 'One More Tree' program. Their employees volunteer on the trails each summer and they sponsor our Summer Trails Challenge by matching your miles with dollars. The team at Oboz live their motto of 'True to the Trail' and give back to our outdoor community. Thank you Team Oboz for your support!
